Motocross Track-Day Budget Calculator
Estimate tow fuel, rider/gate fees, camping, food and miscellaneous trip cost.
A “cheap” practice day can become expensive once truck fuel, multiple riders, camping and meals are included. This planning tool puts the entire trip on one screen.
Enter your own current prices and fees. FLMotocross.com intentionally does not hard-code track prices because those change frequently.
How to use this tool
Enter the full round-trip tow mileage and realistic tow-vehicle MPG, then current fuel price. Add gate, rider, camping, food/ice and a buffer for the expenses you normally encounter.
Use the estimate before choosing between two facilities or deciding whether an overnight trip makes sense. Save a small buffer for unplanned fuel, parts, tolls or weather changes rather than treating the calculated total as a guaranteed maximum.
Worked example
At 150 round-trip miles, 12 MPG and $3.50 per gallon, tow fuel is about $43.75. With $15 gate, $50 rider fees, $30 food/ice and a $25 buffer, the entered trip total is about $163.75.
Using it at the track
For a local practice day, towing fuel and rider fees are usually the largest predictable costs. For a race weekend, add camping, race entry, membership, transponder, tolls and enough food/ice for the full crew. If two riders share a vehicle, the calculator can still be used by entering combined rider fees and the actual tow-vehicle trip.
Use the estimate as a planning baseline, then compare it with what you actually spent. After a few trips you will know whether your “miscellaneous” buffer is realistic and which facilities create extra costs from tolls, camping or longer towing distance.
Before using the result
- Use round-trip towing miles, not one-way distance.
- Trailer towing MPG can be much lower than unloaded MPG.
- Add a buffer for unexpected parts, ice, tolls or extra fuel.
Limit: The calculator does not know current track fees, tolls, lodging, race entries, motorcycle fuel consumption or maintenance cost. Verify venue pricing directly.
